Draw About It.

This week's class was about art therapy, and how we could express the ways we feel at the moment through a work of art. We had to choose four words, which I chose: Despair, abandoned, confident, and hopeful. These represent the two ways in which a feel, and the two ways how I want to feel. At the moment I was getting over someone and wanted to feel happier afterward instead of feeling alone.

I used an image of a broken heart necklace with the broken piece left on the ground to represent despair. And a single hand reaching to grab onto something whilst being in the middle of the ocean represents abandonment. These images were very descriptive and thought out verses my images soon hopefulness, a rainbow, and confidence, a superhero. Yes, these could have a deeper meaning, but I felt as if I didn't feel connected with what I actually wanted to feel, I was more connected to how I felt at that very moment.

In the passage, it states, " When the therapist and client are finding it difficult to relate directly to one another, the artwork may be a bridge between them, a third object, or what the psychoanalysts call a transitional object, which gives them a safe middle ground through which they can be together." This is understandable. We got a quick glance at this earlier in class when we had to work in groups to talk about one thing. That one topic of safety opened up endless possibilities, and endless conversations, since we were all given the same material. It's good to see that these same possibilities could come from doing artwork.
